La gratuité des soins dans le projet MSF de Kangaba au Mali

French report. Malaria is an endemic and sometimes epidemic problem in Mali, particularly among children. The combination of environmental and economic conditions makes health care geographically and economically inaccessible, leading to increasing rates of morbidity and mortality among children under 5 and pregnant women. In August 2005 MSF launched a project in Kangaba to address this issue, offering free health care to the two vulnerable groups. The objective of this study was to document the impact of access to free health care in terms of the cost for the health care provider, whether more patients were successfully treated and whether morbidity and mortality rates were reduced as a result.
