In 2015, MSF operations and medical directors recognised antibiotic resistance (ABR) as a priority and called for the elaboration of an intersectional roadmap to tackle ABR in MSF projects. The MSF ABR Task Force was consolidated in 2017 with joint medical and operational governance.

These case study reports were produced at the request of MSF-OCBA, under the management of the Vienna Evaluation Unit. They were prepared independently by the respective authors.

The Medical Unit (MU; previously Project Unit) in MSF Australia was established in 2005 to develop a co-ownership of the field operations and expand MSF Australia’s involvement with MSF OCP. Today it includes technical advice for OCP operations as well as training and communication on activities relating to women and child health. The objective of the reflective was to summarize and analyse the contribution of the Medical Unit of MSF Australia to reproductive, women’s and children’s health within the operational capability of MSF OCP.

This report is a review of advocacy within the MSF movement from 2010-2015. Commissioned by the core ExCom, the aim of this review was to explore the effectiveness of MSF advocacy and produce recommendations to improve its approach, coordination and organization in support to operations within the movement. Two external evaluation consultants, Glenn O’Neil and Liesbeth Schockaert, conducted the review with the support of Nirupama Sarma who carried out a complementary review of the Access Campaign (AC).

This end of project evaluation of the Roma and Semongkong project “Reducing maternal and infant morbidity and mortality in a hyper-epidemic HIV/TB setting” in Lesotho was commissioned by the MSF Operational Centre Brussels (OCB) South Africa & Lesotho mission to evaluate the impact of the five years programme and identify lessons learned to support the design and planning of potential future projects in Lesotho.

In recent years, MSF has recognized the need to improve its handover process and outcomes. It is no longer satisfactory for the organization to enter a country, put in place a program and leave without taking some accountability for what remains after MSF’s departure. It is in this spirit that I accepted to come to Lesotho to evaluate a handover tool that was implemented here during the initial phase of the handover.

After an initial period of three years in Lesotho, MSF has decided to extend its presence in the country for two more years and to launch a second phase of the project primarily focused on intensifying the transfer of responsibility for the programme to local health authorities and partners. This is due partly to the administrative process now underway in Lesotho to decentralise to local government, coupled with related health sector reforms, which have divided the former catchment area of Scott Hospital Health Service Area into two districts with different management structures.

French report. MSF restarted the activities of the General Reference Hospital in Man in 2003 in order to deliver primary and secondary health care. As well as providing medcidines and medical/surgical material, MSF also provided medical, para-medical, and HR staff to support the hospital. A therapeutic nutrition centre was also opened. MSF also managed 2 other regional hospitals. This evaluation examined the effectiveness and appropriateness of the services provided by MSF.
