Perceptions and poverty: Family health seeking behavior and access to (MDR-) TB diagnosis and treatment. Dushanbe region and Khatlon province, Tajikistan.

In this report the findings of a research done in Tajikistan between 22nd February and 27th April 2012 are presented. The first part of the research was done in the city of Dushanbe and its surroundings, the second part of the research took place in the rural southern region Khatlon. As MSF was not working in this region at the time, part of the research was facilitated by the national NGO Ghamghori and the local Red Crescent. The main objective for this research was to inform the MSF project on the cultural aspects that influence a family’s health seeking behavior and affect their own and their children´s access to TB and MDR-TB diagnosis and treatment in order to optimize the MSF run MDR-TB family project.
