Evaluation of the Medical Operations Manager (MOM) in MSF Germany

One Size Doesn't Fit All -Exploring Strengths, Challenges, and Future Opportunities

Médecins Sans Frontières Operational Centre Amsterdam (MSF OCA), recognizing that "one size does not fit all", has begun adopting differentiated models of support approaches tailored to specific conditions. Significant time and effort were dedicated to testing the Medical Operational Manager (MOM), a combined position of Operational Manager (OM) and Health Advisor (HA). However, this approach comes with the inherent challenge of any new model being compared with the long-term
standard model of support, referred to as the binary model, which is embedded at all levels of the organization.

This evaluation highlights both strengths and challenges of the MOM model, including opportunities for the future based on lessons learned from this experience. These insights will hopefully contribute to continued improvements and innovation within MSF OCA.
