Summary Paper on MSF experience in Survivors of Torture and Ill Treatment (SOiT) projects

Purpose of this Summary Paper on MSF and SOiT projects

The objective of this exercise is to summarise the experiences of MSF working with survivors of torture and ill treatment (SOiT), ensuring they are considered when embarking in future similar activities or simply to keep a record of MSF’s achievements and challenges.

The summary has been created with the experiences of MSF OCBA (Thailand, Mexico and Turkiye), and MSF OCB (in four unnamed projects1 ). These experiences were captured through evaluation or capitalisation exercises from 2020 until 2024.

This document is created for operational use, therefore focusing on practicality and usability. The document highlights key points and procedures that are directly applicable to the operations and medical activities. Detailed explanations and extensive background information are omitted to maintain clarity and brevity. This approach ensures that the document remains a practical tool for day-to-day use while still providing a pathway to more detailed knowledge when needed. If the reader needs further detail, they are directed to consult the original documents for comprehensive information.
