Due to the urgency around needing to establish more effective treatment regimen for DR-TB, and despite MSF not being a medical research organization, the discussion about launching a TB clinical trial in MSF came onto the agenda of the MSF Movement’s leadership in the early 2010s. This resulted in the initiation of the PRACTECAL project in 2013 within MSF OCA, with a main goal of identifying a better DR-TB treatment regimen containing some of the newly available drugs, but also to eventually advocate for its uptake “everywhere […] in national protocols and global policy and guidelines”.

The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Kiambu People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) project, which started in September 2019, had enrolled 590 PWUD in its Medically Assisted Therapy (MAT) program by April 2022. This project provides a one-stop-shop model, offering a comprehensive range of medical and psychosocial services. This study aimed to explore how PWUD navigate from heroin use to MAT enrolment.

Desde 2012 as tasas de homicidios a nivel nacional han disminuido, pero Tegucigalpa sigue siendo uno de los lugares con las tasas más altas del país, lo que se suma al nivel de insatisfacción con el gobierno. A nivel nacional, MSF sigue siendo un actor principal para la prestación de atención a las víctimas de violencia sexual (VS) y otras situaciones de violencia (OVS), a través de sus programas en Tegucigalpa (Departamento Francisco Mazarron) y en San Pedro Sula/Choloma (Departamento Cortes). El Ministerio de Salud carece de políticas o regulaciones que garanticen la atención médica, salud reproductiva comprensiva o de salud mental de esta población.
